Jesus had complete trust in his heavenly Father. He was confident that the Father would glorify him, even though he would die in great pain and dishonor. This was not an easy message for the disciples to understand. Even Peter, when Jesus spoke to him about his death, declared, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you” (Matt 16:22). The hard message for Peter and the other disciples to learn was that this must happen not only to Jesus but they too were called to walk the way of the cross.
